From all historical notes we have deemed it’s past occupants to be as diverse as a hotel, an undertaker, a baker, a wholesaler and his family and finally almost 100 years after its construction The Fish Market Group of Restaurants.

In its youth the Bourbridge Building housed a wholesale surplus store owned and operated by a prominent local family. The surplus store and the hotel across the street and the famous Stoney Mondays Pub next door offered the canal workers a haven after spending long periods of time in less favourable conditions.

Within the midst of any set of four walls there is a library of stories and a catalogue of personalities that act as the glue holding it all together. Whether it was the creaky floor board that gave away the trials of our youth or the layers of old wallpaper reminding us of fashions forgotten, these structures house our memories like the rings of an old oak tree.

The building became a part of the Old Fish Market Restaurant chain in 1979 when a massive renovation took place to develop three restaurants; including excavating of Vineyards which had previously been a crawlspace and Coasters which has previously been the home to the Wholesalers family.

In 1997 a few names changes came along; Vines Wine Bar became Vineyards Wine Bar Bistro, Coaster Shellfish Bar became Coasters Seafood Grill and The Old Fish Market Restaurant became The Fish Market Restaurant. Locally owned and operated by Barbara Mireault and her outstanding team of management, the business continues to prosper better than ever.

In 1992, 2 Irish immigrants took a chance on a dream... The Heart & Crown in the ByWard Market has been in operation since April 1992. It opened with a 50 seat restaurant and a 30 seat patio. 5 years later in 1997, the company doubled in size when the Snug Pub opened attached to the Heart & Crown. In 2001, the company quadrupled in size when the Mother McGintey’s and Black Rose pubs were added and connected to the other 2 pubs. The Irish Village now stretches a city block in the Historic ByWard Market in the heart of Canada’s greatest city, Ottawa. The Irish Village (as some started calling it) consisting of 5 pubs now has a capacity of 490 people indoors and when all of the patios are open, the total capacity is 960 people.

She had given the boys their love of cooking and furthermore had all the best recipes in her head.  As the word spread about her famous “Rice and Potato Rolls”, customers would come in not just to eat, but to see Nonna as well. Once things began to take off, they decided in order to keep up with customers’ demands a bigger space was needed.

Construction began in 2003 for the opening of the newest location just off Riverside Drive in the south end of the city where the community was in need of dining options.  Doors opened in mid March and have become a main stay in the community.  The Riverside Drive location has an open concept dining room with a view of the open kitchen from any seat in the house.  The main focal point is the floor to ceiling glass wine cellar, which is spectacular.  Again the wine selection is amazing housing over 600 labels and many staff are sommeliers for assistance in choosing the perfect wine for your visit.

The pair had seen an article about a US-based dress rental service, but quickly discovered that they didn’t deliver to Canada. Determined to make sure no Canadian woman found herself in the same dilemma, Kristy and Lisa founded Rent frock Repeat in August of 2010.
